The Pennsylvania State Conservation Commission hosted a breakfast on Thursday, Aug. 19 at The Summit Tea Room in New Milford to recognize the Susquehanna County Conservation board for its successful completion of the District Training Program sponsored by Pennsylvania Leadership Development.<\/font><\/span><\/font><\/b><\/p>\n

Executive Secretary of the State Commission Karl Brown, accompanied by Karen Ely of the Department of Environmental Protection’s Harrisburg office and Shane Kleiner of DEP’s Wilkes Barre office, attended to present the certificates.<\/font><\/span><\/font><\/b><\/div>\n
Brown told those attending only two districts, Susquehanna County and McKean County, completed the training. “This is a very positive thing for Susquehanna County,” Brown said. And he congratulated Chairman George Gardner and Commissioner Director MaryAnn Warren for doing what needs to be done.<\/font><\/span><\/font><\/b><\/div>\n
Warren, who is President of the Pennsylvania Association of Conservation Districts, said she was very proud that the county was one of two districts out of the 66 districts in the Commonwealth to achieve this recognition.” You made me look good as president and it gives me bragging rights at the state meetings for your participation, she said.<\/font><\/span><\/font><\/b><\/div>\n
During the regular business meeting the 2012 Canon Envirothon was discussed. The national event, with 55 teams, is week long and will require at least 200 volunteers. Anyone interested in volunteering should contact District Manager Jim Garner at the Susquehanna County Office Building. <\/font><\/span><\/font><\/b><\/div>\n
Garner also spoke of the feasibility study to address changing the structure of the Conservation District without county backing or involvement. <\/font><\/span><\/font><\/b><\/div>\n
Director Bill Ord said there is starting to be a break through with the gas companies and the conservation district. The hand has been extended on both sides, Ord said. We have an opportunity to be the best disrict in the state and we need to be pro-active with the gas industry, he added.<\/font><\/span><\/font><\/b><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
