The young Lady Warriors teams\u2019 hard work and skill development showed throughout the Jan. 19 game as they gave the experienced Montrose girls a run for their money on the court.<\/p>\n

The game remained even in the first quarter with the Lady Meteors out scoring Elk Lake 10-7. Gilhool, Katie Warner, and Fallon Gurn each made one basket and Morgan Groover scored four points for Montrose.<\/p>\n

Julie Van Etten, Whitney Tyler, and Justine Johns scored two points each for the Lady Warriors and Kerri Jones added one more point with a foul shot.<\/p>\n

Both teams added 12 points to the score board. Tyler scored half of those points for Elk Lake with three baskets. Abby Johns had two points, and Darci Warner scored a three-pointer and a foul shot for four points.<\/p>\n

Scoring points for the Lady Meteors were Katie Warner, Groover, and Angela Russell with a bucket each, and Gilhool had one bucket and four foul shots for six points.<\/p>\n

At the end of the half the Lady Meteors were still up by three points, 22-19.<\/p>\n

Repetition was the name of the game again during the third quarter with the teams keeping an even pace throughout the quarter, except that the Lady Warriors outscored Montrose 10-8 to decrease the lead to only one point. Gilhool matched her second quarter points with six more points for the Lady Meteors and Russell added another two points.<\/p>\n

The girls from Elk Lake used the foul line to their advantage by making six of eight attempts from the line. Darci Warner went three of four on foul shots and added another field goal. Van Etten was two of two from the line, and Justine Johns was one of two. Jones added one more basket the Lady Warriors\u2019 total.<\/p>\n

The Lady Warriors got into foul trouble in the final quarter sending the Lady Meteors to the foul line seven times in the quarter.<\/p>\n

But the Elk Lake also took their first lead of the game when Van Etten scored on both of her foul shots, which also made her perfect from the line for the night. The lead didn\u2019t last long as Gilhool tied it up with a foul shot.<\/p>\n

Whitney Tyler took the lead back again for Elk Lake with a foul shot only to once again have Gilhool tie the game again from the foul shot and then take the lead for Montrose with a two-point bucket.<\/p>\n

Gilhool was sent to the foul line five times during the quarter and made good on six of her 10 attempts. Russell made a three-pointer from behind the arch. Gurn added a foul shot and a field goal, as well, for the Meteors.<\/p>\n

Tyler added four more points for the Lady Warriors to lead them in scoring with 13 points, but Gilhool had an answer and added 10 more points on top of her foul shots to lead the Lady Meteors in outscoring Elk Lake 22-7 in the final quarter of the game which ended with a Montrose 52-36 victory.<\/p>\n

Whitney\u2019s high score of 13 for Elk Lake was followed by Darci Warner with 9 points.<\/p>\n

Gilhool was the high scorer for Montrose with 30 points followed by Russell with seven.<\/p>\n

In other girls\u2019 basketball play action last week:<\/p>\n

At Susquehanna, Nicole Barnes had 16 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Lady Sabers to a Division IV win over Mountain View, 60-36.<\/p>\n

Mikaela Hargett had 15 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists for Susquehanna, D.J. Decker scored 15 points and Haley Aldrich had 10 rebounds.<\/p>\n

Tori Wilder led Mountain View with nine points.<\/p>\n

At Blue Ridge, Darci Warner scored 13 points to lead Elk Lake to a 49-38 win over the Raiders.<\/p>\n

Keri Jones and Whitney Tyler each had 10 points for the Lady Warriors.<\/p>\n
