Division IV points leader Austin Darrow boosted Blue Ridge\u2019s confidence as the team came off two wins to take on Elk Lake on the Warrior court.<\/p>\n

In recent play-action the Raiders defeated Mountain View and Susquehanna to take their first victories of the season.<\/p>\n

The Warriors were coming from two losses, to Montrose and Lackawanna Trail and looked to fight for the win.<\/p>\n

In a hard-fought battle on the court, Blue Ridge couldn\u2019t get their third win, sustaining a three-point loss to Elk Lake, 60-57.<\/p>\n

Elk Lake took an early lead and held it through the first quarter. Dalton Sherman, Seth Tewksbury, and Cole Tyler each sank a three-pointers. Sherman added two more baskets and Tewksbury one basket and a foul shot. Hunter Watkins scored a field goal and Bailey Newhart<\/p>\n

went three for four from the foul line.<\/p>\n

Blue Ridge answered with Ty Herbert scoring two baskets and a foul shot. Darrow made two baskets and blocked a shot by Newhart. Jarred Mills added another basket.<\/p>\n

But it was Mike Allen who sank his first three-pointer which set the tone for the kind of game he would have. Allen hit a total of five 3-pointers on the night.<\/p>\n

Elk Lake was up 21-14 at the first buzzer.<\/p>\n

The Raiders came roaring back in the second quarter, silencing the Warriors\u2019 faithful. Darrow scored nine points; Herbert scored six and got a block on Newhart. Allen scored three more three-pointers to outscore the Warriors 24-13 and take a four point lead at the half.<\/p>\n

Points in the second quarter for Elk Lake were scored by Tewksbury with four, Newhart with two; Tyler and Sherman each sank their second three-pointers of the night.<\/p>\n

Blue Ridge was up by four at the half, 38-34.<\/p>\n

The third quarter was marked with three lead changes and closed in a tie at 48. Both teams fought hard trying to gain the momentum and enough points to get a lead that would be difficult for the other team to overcome.<\/p>\n

Elk Lake\u2019s Sherman blocked a shot by Blue Ridge\u2019s Austin Cardoza; and his teammate, Tewksbury blocked a shot attempt by Darrow to get the Warrior crowd roaring.<\/p>\n

Newhart scored six points, Watkins had four, Tewksbury and Tyler each added two points to the Warriors 14 in the quarter.<\/p>\n

Darrow scored six points for the raiders, and Herbert and Cardoza had two to give the Raiders 10.
\nInteresting things happen when a quarter ends with a tie – the teams usually play like they are starting over with a score of zero to zero.<\/p>\n

The Raiders did it by shooting three-pointers. Allen got his fifth and final three of the game; and teammates Mills and Jeffrey Morris each made one to give the Raiders nine points. Darrow got his second blocked shot of the game with a block on Cole Tyler.<\/p>\n

But it wasn\u2019t enough as Elk Lake\u2019s shooters hit the basket more often. Sherman and Tewksbury scored two each; Newhart and Ben Woolcock each added four more points to outscore the Raiders, 12-9, and earn a 60-57 victory.<\/p>\n

Darrow was the high scorer for Blue Ridge with 19 points and nine rebounds, followed by Allen with 15 points, and Herbert with 13 points and seven rebounds.<\/p>\n

High scorers for the Warriors were Newhart with 15 points and three rebounds, Tewksbury with 14 points and five rebounds, and Sherman with 12 points.<\/p>\n

In other boys basketball action last week:
\nJack Fruehan scored 17 points as No. 9 Montrose captured the Lackawanna League Division IV first-half title with a 66-53 win over No. 10 Forest City in a boys basketball game Thursday.<\/p>\n

Hunter Traver had 14 points for the Meteors, Austin Smith scored 13 and Brendan Buck added 12.<\/p>\n

Noah Yates led Forest City with 13 points and Matt Nevins scored 11.<\/p>\n

At Susquehanna, Tyler Williams scored 15 points to lead the Sabers in a 50-43 win over Mountain View.<\/p>\n

Luke Falletta had 12 points for Susquehanna and Christian Miller scored 11.<\/p>\n

Chris White had 21 points for Mountain View and Cody Hollister added 10.<\/p>\n

At Lackawanna Trail, Noah Fedak scored 12 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter to lead No. 10 Forest City in a 62-56 win over Lackawanna Trail.<\/p>\n

Noah Yates had 13 points for the Foresters and Matt Nevins scored 12.<\/p>\n

Ross Fauquier scored 26 points for Lackawanna Trail, Jerry Chilewski had 14 and Tyler Rzucidlo had 10.<\/p>\n

At Susquehanna, Austin Darrow scored 36 points to lead Blue Ridge to a 58-53 win in overtime against the Sabers.<\/p>\n

Luke Falletta hit six 3-pointers and scored 23 points for Susquehanna.<\/p>\n

At Mountain View, Lakeland scored a 62-49 win in a Division III-IV crossover game with the Eagles.<\/p>\n
