Elk Lake<\/strong>
\nEmily Curry is a member of the basketball cheerleading squad and was voted the school\u2019s most spirited cheerleader at the annual Red Wallace game against Carbondale Area.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt takes a lot of dedication and you practice a lot,\u201d Curry said. \u201cYou really need to be into what you\u2019re doing and be passionate about it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Curry has been a member of the squad for three years and was voted captain this season.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s really cool to help out the new girls,\u201d the junior said. \u201cJust giving them some pointers and pointing them in the right direction.\u201d<\/p>\n

She is also a member of student council and the Key Club, where she assisted in a canned food drive for Thanksgiving.<\/p>\n

Forest City<\/strong>
\nSenior Matt Nevins spent a lot of time around the Thanksgiving holiday helping others.<\/p>\n

The four-year starting guard on the basketball team is a member of student council, where he volunteered in the Feed-a-Friend program.<\/p>\n

The program was able to provide 53 families in the Forest City area with a Thanksgiving meal.<\/p>\n

Nevins is also a member of the National Honor Society.<\/p>\n

Montrose<\/strong>
\nBasketball player Morgan Groover recently completed her senior project, where she shadowed coach Al Smith at his job as a parole officer. She would like to follow a career path in law enforcement.<\/p>\n

\u201cI got to sit in on court cases, investigations and prison visits to inmates,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Groover is a starter on the team. \u201cI feel our season has gone well despite losing a lot of close games,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Mountain View<\/strong>
\nFreshman Jacelyn Evans is getting a real kick out of athletics.<\/p>\n

Along with playing softball, Evans has been studying karate for six years and is loving it more every day.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt started when I was with my friends on Buddy Night and I got to try out a class,\u201d Evans said. \u201cI really liked it and stayed with it.\u201d<\/p>\n

And a bonus of studying karate?<\/p>\n

\u201cI learned how to count to 10 in Korean,\u201d Evans said.<\/p>\n

The National Junior Honor Society student wants to stay with karate and eventually teach it to younger kids.<\/p>\n

Susquehanna<\/strong>
\nThe seventh-grade girls basketball team took first place recently at the third annual Tip-Off Tournament hosted by Blue Ridge.<\/p>\n

Team members are: Leah Reyes, Geena Miller, Mackenzie Heath, MacKenzie Steele, Haley Hyndshaw, Rachel Day, Taylor Huyck, Amanda Iveson and Paetan Benson. Coaches are Dawn Steele and Jami Hyndshaw.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
