Blue Ridge<\/strong>
\nThanks to the co-operative agreement between the two schools, senior Austin White gets to play football at Susquehanna. He has helped the Sabers reach Friday night\u2019s District 2 Class A final against Old Forge.
\n\u201cIt\u2019s really unique. Guys from two schools and two communities coming together,\u201d White said. \u201cWe get along well. I think it has helped us. We\u2019ve become close friends.\u201d<\/p>\n

White plays basketball for Blue Ridge, which makes things interesting when the Raiders face Susquehanna.
\n\u201cIt\u2019s a lot of fun. It\u2019s a rivalry game and it\u2019s always a good, physical game,\u201d White said. \u201cWe\u2019re teammates on the football field. But on the basketball court, it\u2019s a different story.\u201d<\/p>\n

Besides sports, White is also a member of Envirothon and is vice president of his class.<\/p>\n

After graduation, he thinks he might like to study sports medicine and athletic training. He hopes to continue playing football in college.<\/p>\n

Elk Lake<\/strong>
\nKatie Bennett was the top finisher for Elk Lake at the PIAA cross country championships, finishing 10th overall to lead the Lady Warriors to their second straight silver trophy in the Class A team standings. The junior said it was easy to transition from a competitor to then cheering for her teammates.<\/p>\n

\u201cI really love all my teammates,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s more like a family than a team.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bennett, who has been a member of the team since seventh grade, said she was drawn to running for a practical reason.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not really coordinated in other sports so I thought I\u2019d try running and i liked it,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

She is also a member of the indoor track and track and field teams, student council and prom steering.<\/p>\n

Forest City<\/strong>
\nJunior Jace Twilley knows the boys and girls basketball teams inside and out.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s been the school\u2019s game announcer for four years, having started in eighth grade.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy eighth grade English teacher asked for volunteers so I thought it would be fun.\u201d<\/p>\n

Twilley plays soccer and baseball but has found a passion for announcing the teams\u2019 basketball games.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t have a fear of speaking,\u201d he said. \u201cMy dream is to be a field reporter for ESPN.\u201d<\/p>\n

Twilley belongs to FBLA and student council.<\/p>\n

He plans to major in communications at either Penn State or the University of Scranton.<\/p>\n

Montrose<\/strong>
\nWilliam Hewes chose to apply his skills in wood shop and metal shop for his senior project to emphasize a few of his many strengths.<\/p>\n

Hewes built two picnic tables that he later donated to the solar pavilion that is currently being built at the high school.<\/p>\n

He started by harvesting a white pine tree for the wood. Then he took the wood to a saw mill where he cut it into boards for the tables, but before the wood could be worked with, it had to be dried. After that, he planed the boards and cut them to size.<\/p>\n

\u201c I enjoyed this project because it let me do what I enjoy and show my love for carpentry,\u201d Hewes said.
\nHewes, a senior, was a member of the football team this year.<\/p>\n

Susquehanna<\/strong>
\nSenior captain and three-year starter Austin Felter has helped the football team reach the District 2 Class A final against Old Forge on Friday night.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe knew it had been a long time since (Susquehanna) made it to the District 2 championship game,\u201d Felter said. \u201cWe wanted to make it happen and we did.\u201d<\/p>\n

Besides football, Felter is also a starter on the baseball and basketball teams. He is a member of the National Honor Society and the Pump Club.<\/p>\n

Since math and science are among his favorite subjects, Felter thinks he might like to study mechanical engineering in college. He is considering Penn State, Pittsburgh and East Stroudsburg University.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
