Blue Ridge<\/strong>
\nLaurren Whitney rose up the ranks over the summer.
\nThe senior earned Harford Fair Queen honors. Her responsibilities included spending the week promoting all the aspects of agriculture at the fair and presenting ribbons and awards to the 4-H participants.
\n\u201cIt was life-changing because it brought out my true character and true colors throughout the week,\u201d Laurren said.
\nLaurren also serves as a member of 4H, and placed first in the open showmanship contest. The senior will travel to Hershey in January to compete in the state competition.
\n\u201cI\u2019ll be going there and competing against all the fair queens in Pennsylvania, which I\u2019m really excited about,\u201d Laurren said.
\nShe hopes to study animal science at Cornell University, where she would also like to join track and field.<\/p>\n

Elk Lake<\/strong>
\nJunior Brandon Regeis won best of show in individual entry for grades 7-12 in art at this summer\u2019s Harford Fair.
\n\u201cWe had to do a regular still-life picture, inflated and deflated. I chose a sunflower. We had to make it look as realistic as possible. I put my own little touch into it,\u201d Brandon said. \u201cI liked it. It\u2019s definitely one of those projects I enjoyed doing.\u201d
\nBrandon would like to further his education in the art field and hopefully work in the industry after college.<\/p>\n

Montrose Area<\/strong>
\nWhen looking toward her future, Victoria Hinds may aim to carry on the family business, Hinds Oil.
\nThe junior spent part of her summer traveling to Texas to participate in seminars and studying how to run and expand a family business.
\n\u201cI learned new tactics and ideas on how to make the business successful,\u201d Victoria said. \u201cI also learned what it takes and what I\u2019ll need to do if I proceed into the business.\u201d
\nThe junior is confident she will succeed in taking the reins of the family business if she keeps the right attitude.
\n\u201cThe best thing you can do in all aspects of life, not just the business world, is be positive and give off positive energy,\u201d Victoria said.
\nThe junior also plays tennis.<\/p>\n

Mountain View<\/strong>
\nSelena Knowlton continued to chase her passion during the summer.
\nThe eighth-grader participated in an American Academy of Ballet camp.
\n\u201cI did it for two weeks,\u201d Selena said. \u201cAt the end, there was a gala performance, and we did a ballet piece, jazz and Spanish.\u201d
\nSelena went to the camp the past two years, and will continue to look into other camps. She began participating in ballet at an early age.
\n\u201cI started when I was like 4,\u201d Selena said. \u201cIt\u2019s my favorite thing to do.\u201d
\nThe eighth-grader also participates in gymnastics.<\/p>\n

Susquehanna Community<\/strong>
\nElizabeth Delaney will have an opportunity to play her clarinet at a new level.
\nAfter auditioning, the freshman earned a spot on the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association Ninth Grade Honors Band.
\n\u201cI wasn\u2019t sure if I was going to get in or not, and when I found out I was really excited,\u201d Elizabeth said.
\nShe joins classmate Kayla Marino in the band, which will play in a one-day festival at Dallas High School. The ninth-grader started playing the flute in first grade before she decided to make a switch.
\n\u201cI wasn\u2019t satisfied with the flute, so I changed to the clarinet,\u201d Elizabeth said. \u201cI find it easier to play.\u201d
\nThe high honor student also serves on student council and competes in cross country and track.
