{"id":13153,"date":"2014-08-05T17:05:51","date_gmt":"2014-08-05T17:05:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/independentweekender.com\/?p=13153"},"modified":"2014-08-05T17:05:51","modified_gmt":"2014-08-05T17:05:51","slug":"agency-reviewing-environmental-impact-of-pipeline","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.greenstreetdata.com\/PS\/2014\/08\/05\/agency-reviewing-environmental-impact-of-pipeline\/","title":{"rendered":"Agency reviewing environmental impact of pipeline"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>BY BRENDAN GIBBONS<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> Times Shamrock Writer<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A federal agency in charge of interstate natural gas pipelines will develop an environmental impact statement for a line proposed to further connect Susquehanna County to national gas markets.<\/p>\n<p>Williams, operator of the Transco pipeline, which runs from the Texas Gulf to New York and New Jersey with a spur that passes through Luzerne County, started the permitting process for its Atlantic Sunrise project in late March. The project includes plans to place about 56 miles of new 30-inch pipe from Susquehanna County to Columbia County, according to documents it filed with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. This would require a 90-foot-wide temporary construction corridor, with a permanent 50-foot easement after the pipe is in the ground.<\/p>\n<p>It would also build two electric 15,000-horsepower compressors and two meter stations in Susquehanna County.<\/p>\n<p>Under the National Environmental Policy Act, FERC must weigh the project\u2019s environmental effects before approving it. It announced Friday that it would draft an environmental impact statement, involving a more stringent review process than a simple environmental assessment.<\/p>\n<p>FERC will hold four meetings asking for public input, including one from 7 to 10 p.m. Aug. 7 at Lake-Lehman High School in Dallas Twp. Williams held its own public meetings in late May and early June.<\/p>\n<p>The agency will accept comments during this period advising its staff on what issues it should examine. That comment period closes Aug. 18.<\/p>\n<p>Documents are available on FERC\u2019s online library under the docket number PF14-8-000.
