A video produced at one Susquehanna County school is making a lot of people \u201chappy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Montrose Area High School\u2019s newly formed \u2018Friends of Rachel\u2019 Club set out to spread a positive message with a student-made video set to the Pharrell Williams\u2019 hit song \u201cHappy.\u201d<\/p>\n

The club was officially recognized by the school board earlier this month. The \u2018Friends of Rachel\u2019 Club stem from Rachel\u2019s Challenge seminars which empower students and administrators to build a better school environment.<\/p>\n

Rachel Joy Scott was the first victim in the 1999 Columbine school shooting. In her journals, found after her death, Scott had written about starting a \u201cchain reaction of kindness.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her family and friends took up that goal which has become known as \u201cRachel\u2019s Challenge\u201d and a seminar was held at Montrose \u2013 inspiring the formation of the FOR Club.<\/p>\n

Montrose Principal Michael Boccella said the production of the video was coordinated with teachers and staff to work around testing schedules and complete the production with \u201cas little interruption to the school day as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n

Club advisers Charlotte Sherwood and Charlene Kempa reached out to student videographer Corey Ross-Robertson for assistance.<\/p>\n

Ross-Robertson, also a FOR Club member, assembled a crew which filmed the video in about two days.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis school is very close-knit. Everybody is friends with each other,\u201d he said and most students and staff were eager to participate. \u201cThere\u2019s not too many people who didn\u2019t want to be in it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ross-Robertson said similar videos had received about 3,000 views and he felt confident the \u201cHappy\u201d production could achieve that. But the over 7,000 views were unexpected. \u201cIt\u2019s overwhelming the amount of support the video has gotten.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ross-Robertson received a video camera when he was in the tenth grade. He began taping sports events for fun and posting the clips on YouTube. While doing so, he found \u201ca love and passion for videography\u201d which he plans to turn into a career with plans to attend Penn State\u2019s College of Communications at University Park in the fall.<\/p>\n

Principal Boccella said \u201cThe kids were excited about the video.\u201d<\/p>\n

And they still are. While many students were already involved in the FOR Club \u2013 the video has generated even more interest.<\/p>\n

The \u201cHappy\u201d video captures the joy and excitement of both the Montrose Area students and staff, Boccella said. \u201cPeople like being here and it shows.\u201d And he added, the message of the video \u2013 as well as the club \u2013 is \u201cStarting a chain reaction.\u201d<\/p>\n

But Boccella said he didn\u2019t think the YouTube upload would get as many views as it has.<\/p>\n
