During the Elk Lake School District meeting Wednesday, a bond payment in amount of $562,641.25 was approved for the Susquehanna County Career and Technology Center expansion project.<\/p>\n

Tax bills in the district will be sent out July 15, rather than the usual July 1, to allow more time for the school budget process.<\/p>\n

Superintendent William Bush said that he recently met Montrose Area High School athletic director Joe Gilhool to discuss an agreement for field hockey.<\/p>\n

Bush said that he is not recommending the combined field hockey team formation at this time. “We have facilities and students for this sport,” he said.<\/p>\n

Elk Lake and Montrose field joint teams for football and swimming.<\/p>\n

Elk Lake does not have a football field and the other required equipment for a football team; and Montrose does not have pool facilities.<\/p>\n

The board approved the sale of a driver education car to SCCTC. The car was described as a 2012, Malibu, in excellent shape. The price was quoted as $14,222, less $1,000 for a trade in vehicle.<\/p>\n

The resignation for purposes of retirement from custodian Andy Shuren, effective Apr. 19, was approved with regret.<\/p>\n

The superintendent said the position would be posted.<\/p>\n

Kara DeWitt sent a letter informing the board of her intent to enter into a disability retirement for the next year, but noted that she may return to the district.<\/p>\n

Kindergarten teacher Tiffany Neenan will begin a leave on June 3.<\/p>\n

A letter of resignation was received from a bus monitor was also accepted.
\nPamela Staats, director of special education, reported that some of the Elk Lake special education students will participate in the local Special Olympics in Tunkhannock at the end of April.<\/p>\n

Katie Good and Amy Hand were hired for associate positions in the district.
\nTwo 180 day expulsions of students were also approved by the board. At least four board members abstained from vote, including Teel, who said that she was not present at the hearings.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
