Elk Lake Elementary Principal Dr. Ken Cuomo was officially appointed by the Elk Lake school board as superintendent of schools on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n

In December, the board announced Cuomo would be taking over the position at the end of the school year, replacing retiring superintendent, William Bush.<\/p>\n

The board approved a contract for Cuomo and his appointment was made official on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Prior to his position as the elementary principal, Cuomo was the principal at Elk Lake\u2019s senior high school for more than 20 years.<\/p>\n

The special Elk Lake board meeting was held along with the Susquehanna County Career and Technology Center meeting, which is scheduled for the first Wednesday of every month.<\/p>\n

For the past two months, snowstorms have occurred on the SCCTC meeting Wednesdays, causing those meetings to be held at the regular Elk Lake school board meeting.<\/p>\n

In other business, a new business director was appointed to replace Kim Hollister, who is retiring. Jeannie Rogers, who has been serving as the SCCTC school board secretary, was hired as business director.<\/p>\n

Extended season pay was approved for several athletic coaches whose work continued into post-season play.<\/p>\n

At the SCCTC board meeting, the box truck used for the building trades students to transport tools to the student built house site was discussed. The current box truck didn’t work out well, and was larger than what the program required.<\/p>\n

The board approved the sale of the truck to the Northern Tier Technology Center for $5,000. It also approved the purchase of another, smaller box truck for the program.<\/p>\n

Permission was granted to advertise for bids for equipment to be purchased with a supplemental equipment grant.<\/p>\n

For another, separate equipment grant, bids were accepted for a number of items from various vendors for SCCTC programs.<\/p>\n

Transportation employees for the career center, which are not members of the union to which Elk Lake drivers belong, received 40 cent per hour raises for CDL drivers; and 30 cent per hour raises for non-CDL drivers.<\/p>\n

A Future Business Leaders of America reimbursement to the Elk Lake School District was approved for SCCTC students.<\/p>\n

The purchase of a plasma cutter was approved for the welding department.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
