Bradley made two baskets and Schermerhorn added two more points.

At the other end of the court, Cameron Dean scored two baskets and went three for four from the foul line, Warner put in five points and Frank Fruehan added in another basket.

Both teams marked eight rebounds during the third quarter with Mt. View’s Deon Faramelli snagging four of them. Bradley grabbed two more and Schermerhorn and Chris White each picked up a rebound for the Eagles.

Montrose’s rebounding was all about Warner who snatched five of them and had a blocked shot. Dean had two rebounds, and Smith had one rebound and a steal.

The Meteors protected the ball better with only three turnovers.
The third quarter ended with Montrose up by 8, 34-26.

The final eight minutes of play had fans from both teams on the edge of their seats. Mt. View fans realized that their team had a chance to win as the underdogs while Montrose fans willed their team to step up and play harder to secure the victory and not allow the season to abruptly end.
Both teams were in foul danger each one in the bonus so foul shots made a huge difference in the last quarter.

Jack Fruehan, Smith and Warner were each a perfect two for two from the foul line and Dean added another foul shot. These seven points were the icing on the cake for Montrose who outscored the Eagles 15-9 in the last quarter.

Baskets were also scored by Jack Fruehan, Warner and two by Dean.
Mt. View’s points were scored by Bradley and Schemerhorn.

With 5:25 left to go in the game, Mt. View’s Chris White was given a technical foul for pushing one of Montrose’s players after the whistle was blown for a time out. He was removed from the game, but went back in 20 seconds later when Faramelli fouled out.

The Meteors again out rebounded the Eagles 9-7; Dean had 5 and Ely and Warner each grabbed two. Mt. View rebounds were made by Bryan Owens with three, Jesse Gerfin, Wescott, and Bradley each with one.

In the end the Eagles did not get the win, but played hard and didn’t go down without a fight.

Montrose got the win 49-35 and advanced to the second round of playoffs against Mid-Valley on Saturday, Feb. 22.

When the game was over, so was Mt. View’s season. There were a lot of tears from the parents, players, and the bookkeeper for the Eagles who has been with the team since they were in 7th grade.
