Financing arrangements for the county treasurer\u2019s office entryway were put into motion at the Wednesday, Jan. 22 commissioners\u2019 meeting.<\/p>\n

Peoples Securities Bank & Trust offered the county a short-term loan in the amount of $125,000, at 1.5 percent interest, with a $100 bank fee, and no pre-payment penalty.<\/p>\n

In order to use funded debt to pay for the portion of the project, the county is required to take out the loan \u2013 which would be paid off almost immediately, Commissioner Michael Giangrieco said.<\/p>\n

At the Jan. 8 meeting, the commissioners awarded the bid for the entrance canopy project to Rock Boulder Inc., of Binghamton, N.Y. Total bid price was $179,300.<\/p>\n

The balance of the project will be paid for out of the general fund.
\nCommissioner Alan Hall reported on the progress of the county\u2019s quest to have a water line run to the county jail, located off Rt. 29 in Bridgewater Twp.<\/p>\n

Hall said the preliminary engineering work has been done and the county\u2019s economic development arm \u2013 the Progress Authority \u2013 is seeking funding for the estimated $1.1 million project.<\/p>\n

Audience member Vera Scroggins asked if the commissioners would consider running the water line to Dimock Twp.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur goal is to get water to the jail,\u201d Hall said. \u201cWe are not responsible for taking water to Dimock.\u201d<\/p>\n

Currently, a water tank at the correctional facility has a leak which is slated for a $1,600 repair.<\/p>\n

The commissioners said the water has been tested and that is safe.
\nDuring the time of the actual tank repair, replacement water will be brought in to the facility.<\/p>\n

Scroggins also asked the commissioners why they had refused to allow County Solicitor Thomas Meagher \u2013 in his position as the county\u2019s attorney – to be interviewed by an Italian film crew she would have in the area later the day of the meeting.<\/p>\n

Giangrieco responded, \u201cWhere is come from we call that \u2018attorney-client\u2019 privilege.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

The few items appearing on the sparse agenda dealt with personnel:
\nThe commissioners acknowledged the hiring of Josh Hale by Sheriff Lance Benedict to the position of Deputy Sheriff, effective Jan. 20.<\/p>\n

The resignation of Bruce Laubacker, 911, was accepted, with regret, effective end of business on Jan. 8.<\/p>\n

And the commissioners also acknowledged the acceptance, with regret, by Treasurer Catherine Benedict the retirement of Patricia Oleniacz, effective end of business April 3. Oleniacz has worked for the county for 35 years.<\/p>\n
