\nCorrespondent<\/strong><\/p>\n

Susquehanna Community Elemenrtary Principal Robert K. Keyes\u2019 announced his plans to retire after 38 years with the district at the end of the school year.<\/p>\n

The school board accepted his notice of retirement at the Jan. 15 meeting.
\nKeyes joined the faculty as a Health and Physical Education teacher and basketball coach in 1976. He was named elementary principal in 1983 and has held the position for 31 years.<\/p>\n

Keyes graduated from Susquehanna Community High School in 1971 and attended Keystone Junior College, where he continued to perform as an outstanding basketball player.<\/p>\n

He graduated from East Stroudsburg University in 1975 before joining the Susquehanna staff and then continued his education at the University of Scranton where he was awarded a Master\u2019s Degree in 1979.<\/p>\n

Keyes has held several coaching positions with the Sabers from 1975 until 2004.<\/p>\n

He presently is a basketball official.<\/p>\n

When the letter of intent to retire was presented to the board, Superintendent Bronson Stone remarked on the elementary school making the Annual Yearly Progress (AYP) every year since the PSSA testing system has been in existence.<\/p>\n

It was also noted that this outstanding educator, along with Stone developed and implemented the K-4 program at the elementary school.<\/p>\n

Keyes also served on an education council and is a 31 year member of the Pennsylvania Association of Secondary and Elementary Principals.
\nHe was wished well by the board.<\/p>\n

The board also accepted a letter of intent to retire from Carol Bushong.
\nWith 34 years on the Saber staff, Stone described her as an \u201cinstitution\u201d in the school district.<\/p>\n

Bushong has held several positions in the district and started working in the school cafeteria; moving on to a position in the library; in-school suspension and the high school office.<\/p>\n

She will be retiring as the Administrative Assistant in the guidance office, a position she held for the past seven years.<\/p>\n

Although not in attendance at the January meeting, Bushong was also wished well by the board.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
