A New Milford Twp. man stands accused of holding a large knife to a child\u2019s throat in an effort to keep police from taking him into custody at his home on Dec. 13.<\/p>\n

Pennsylvania State Police, Gibson, responded to the residence on Rt. 848 after a 9-1-1 hang up call was made from the home.<\/p>\n

Cpl. Michael Joyce and Tpr. Steven Kozloski were met in the basement of the residence by a man later identified as Jamel Moncrieft, also known as Jamel Randolph.<\/p>\n

Moncrieft denied anyone from the home had called the emergency number.
\nAccording to the affidavit filed in New Milford District Court, two children were also in the basement with Moncrieft at that time.<\/p>\n

Moncrieft\u2019s live-in girlfriend spoke with Tpr. Kozloski in front of the residence and told police that the man had been punching her and dragging her around the basement by her hair.<\/p>\n

According to the court document, the woman\u2019s clothes were torn and hanging from her body under a white robe and there was visible bruising on her arm.
\nShe also informed the troopers that Moncrieft was on parole for robbery in New York City.<\/p>\n

Moncrieft, however, refused to provide his name or birthdate to the officers who informed him he would be taken to the barracks for identification.<\/p>\n

According to the affidavit, Moncrieft became irate and pushed the children up the basement stairs, closing the door behind him and blocking police from opening the door.<\/p>\n

Moncrieft then pushed the children into a bedroom where police found him holding a nine-year-old boy on his lap with a knife to the child\u2019s throat.<\/p>\n

According to the affidavit, Tpr. Kozloski had his firearm drawn as Moncrieft shouted at the officers demanding they leave the home.<\/p>\n

Cpl. Joyce utilized a Taser on Moncrieft causing him to drop the knife.<\/p>\n

The man continued to resist arrest as he was being handcuffed. According to the affidavit, Moncrieft kicked out both glass windows on the back of the patrol car and damaged both of the vehicle\u2019s back doors.<\/p>\n

He also attempted to crawl out of the windows and kicked Tpr. Kozloski several times in the legs.<\/p>\n

According to the affidavit, Moncrieft continued to threaten Tpr. Kozloski at the Gibson barracks saying he would hunt down and kill the police officer.<\/p>\n

Moncrieft was arraigned in front of District Judge Jodi Cordner. He was charged by Tpr. Greg Deck with aggravated assault; terroristic threats; simple assault; recklessly endangering another person; and resisting arrest.
\nBail was set at $1 million.<\/p>\n

A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Dec. 30 in New Milford District Court.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
