Despite all of the success the program was having, Roger Thomas knew how to keep his team hungry for more.<\/p>\n

Despite having the pressure of being defending state champions and getting everybody\u2019s best shot, he knew how to lighten the mood.<\/p>\n

Through it all, he made sure his team was successful both on and off the field.<\/p>\n

For the influence he had on his players and leading Mountain View to its second consecutive PIAA Class A final, Thomas is The Times-Tribune AllRegion Boys Soccer Coach of the Year.<\/p>\n

\u201cPlaying under him was fun,\u201d senior Zeb Cross said. \u201cHe was always in good spirits and always coming up with new ways to keep us interested in practice.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s somebody that really cares about his players both on and off the field and making sure they\u2019re doing well.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last season, the Eagles capped off an 18-0 season with a 1-0 victory over Sewickley Academy in the state championship game. Mountain View came back this season and won its fourth consecutive District 2 Class A championship and made a return trip to Hershey, where it fell in a rematch to Sewickley Academy, 4-2.<\/p>\n

But Thomas got the most out of his players and taught them valuable lessons they will carry with them as the years go on.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s always making sure we\u2019re working hard \u2014 not just on the field but in other aspect of our lives,\u201d Cross said. \u201cWe always told each other that we\u2019re a family, and he did a good job of making sure we kept it that way.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
