The Elk Lake and Montrose boys cross country teams improved to 5-0 this season with both collecting two wins in the second meet of the season at Blue Ridge on Tuesday, Sept. 15.
Montrose’s Owen Brewer set a course record for the second consecutive meet, this time finishing in 17:29.
Zach Mead of Montrose was third and Brandon Curley was fourth.
Cody Oswald paced Elk Lake with a second-place finish on the 3.1-mile course in 17:52, while Seth Owens finished seventh in 18:20.
Hunter Bedell finished in ninth at 18:23 for the Warriors, who are off to a strong start to defending their District 2 Class A championship.
“Coach (Will Squier) has done a good job going year-to-year,” Bedell said. “He’s focused on getting potential out of us year-in and year-out and not putting a lot of pressure on us.”
Bedell also participates in indoor track and field in the winter and competes in the outdoor track and field season in the spring.
“I prefer racing in track,” Bedell said. “But I do enjoy both track and cross country. I enjoy the team we have this year. It’s a good group.
Justine Johns led the Lady Warriors with a fourth place finish in 20:15 and was immediately followed by teammates Katie Bennett (20:20) and Keri Jones (20:36).
Also for Elk Lake, Shyanne Bennett also finished in the top 20 in 16th at 22:49.
Scranton Prep’s Erin Feeney won the race and set a new course record with a time of 18:36.
At Honesdale, Forest City’s Jennifer Korty finished first on the 3.1-mile course with a time of 21:03.
