One killed, 3 injured in crashes

The 22-year-old passenger in a Volkswagen Jetta was killed Sunday, Aug. 23 in a crash on SR 374, Lenox Twp. The driver of the vehicle, a 24-year-old Hop Bottom man was injured in the crash.

Police identified the woman as Shannon Schuler. The name of the driver has not yet been released by authorities.

Police reported that neither Schuler not the driver were wearing seat belts when the vehicle failed to negotiate a curve left the roadway at about 4 a.m.

The car spun in the grass then vaulted off a bank, going airborne. While in the air, the driver’s side of the vehicle struck a tree. The car then rolled onto its roof.

The driver was able to exit the car. He walked to a neighboring residence and called 911. He was transported to Geisinger CMC, Scranton for treatment of his injuries.

Schuler was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are investigating the crash. Tpr. Vito Cusumano responded to the scene.

Another Sunday crash – this one on Creamery Road, Rush Twp., sent two women to the hospital.

The driver, a Meshoppen women, age 25, sustained serious injuries. Police said she was not wearing a seat belt. She was transported to Geisinger CMC, Scranton, for treatment.

A Montrose woman, also age 25, sustained moderate injuries and was wearing a seat belt, according to police. She was transported to Wilson Hospital, Johnson City, N.Y., for treatment.

The vehicle was traveling south on Creamery Road with it traveled off the roadway. The driver overcorrected and then went off the opposite side of the road and struck a tree.

This crash also remains under investigation by Tpr. Vito Cusumano.
