New Milford readies pool for season

BY STACI WILSON

New Milford Borough plans to have work done on the pool in Blue Ridge Park to have it open for swimmers in the afternoon of Monday, June 15.

Borough council president Ken Carey, who is also a member of the Parks and Recreation Board, reported to council at the Thursday, June 4 meeting, that the cover was off the pool and cleanup work would be beginning on Friday (June 5).

Carey also said concrete work would be done at the pool prior to its opening; and the new filtration system would be installed on Monday, June 15.
The installation is slated to take place in the morning. Carey said the process takes about four hours,

He also told council that the filtration system would cost less than previously thought. The pool, he said, requires a less powerful pump than estimated.

Along with a pool manager, lifeguards for the season have also been hired.

Some volunteers will be needed as the borough moves to replace some fencing at the Blue Ridge Park. An auger will be rented to use to dig the post holes for a split rail fence.

Volunteers from Bridgewater Baptist Church were recognized by the council for their help in cleaning up the borough’s two parks.

This summer, the Parks and Recreation board has planned a summer concert series. The first concert, held in May, featured a performance by the Blue Ridge bands.

The next free concert at Midtown Park is June 19 at 6:30 p.m. and will feature a performance by Mountain Aire Brass.

The borough is also looking to add a part-time seasonal worker to its staff to assist in some of the weekly maintenance work.

Council also discussed the condition of the tennis courts in Midtown Park, and discussed moving forward with the installation of basketball hoops on one of the courts.

Council also thanked Eleanor Lempke for the flowers placed in front of the borough building.

A natural gas service vendor expo has been tentatively scheduled for July 8. More information about the event is expected in the coming weeks.
