Becca Sisson is the lone Elk Lake senior on the girls’ swim team. She is the Independent’s Student Athlete of the Week.

Sisson is a leader on the Elk Lake team, which co-sponsors its program with Montrose.

Sisson, a freestyle racer, won both the 200 and 500 freestyle events in a recent meet against Scranton.

Sisson started participating in Elk Lake Swimming as a fourth grader.

“It is both an individual and team sport,” Sisson said. “I also like the complexity of it.”

She says the team is doing well this year and it’s getting better. “My season so far has been really good. I am improving every meet. We, as a team, are working hard to get to championships.”

Racing in the water isn’t the only thing that keeps Sisson busy at Elk Lake. She plays soccer and is on the track and field team.

Her performance in the classroom can also be commended as she is a member of both the National Honor Society and the French Honor Society.

She is employed as a lifeguard at the Elk Lake pool and is on the Prom Steering Committee. In her spare time she likes to paint and is involved in Girl Scouts.

Sisson’s high school spirit was recognized by her classmates who voted her “Most Spirited” in the yearbook.

Sisson says her coach, Marion Austin, inspires her. “My coach (inspires me) because she sees my potential and has worked hard to support me.”

Following graduation, she plans to attend the Word of Life Bible Institute in Schroon Lake, N.Y.

She is the daughter of Sheldon and Noelle Sisson of West Auburn.
