After serving as the superintendent of the Mountain View School District two separate times, Dr. Andrew Chichura joined the district as a school board member Monday night.
Chichura, of Lenox Twp., was one of three people to express interest in filling the board seat vacated in July by Stephen Kilmer.
In his statement to the board, Chichura noted his “vast knowledge” of the school district, and his experience on a school board – having served as a member of the Abington Heights school board in the 1970s.
He served as the superintendent of Mountain View from 1984-1996; and again 2006-2012.
Others who expressed interest included Casey Webster, a special education teacher in the process of obtaining a degree in education administration; and Dawn Ziegler, a pediatric nurse who also served on a rural health care board.
Board members had no questions for any of the candidates following their introductory statements.
Vice President Roy Twining nominated Chichura for the seat; while board member Jason Casselbury offered up a nomination for Webster.
Board members Ellen Ahearn, Michael Barhite, Jason Richmond, Thomas Stoddard and Twining voted to bring Chichura on as a member; Casselbury cast the lone vote for Webster.
The seat will appear on the ballot in November.
District attorney Joseph Gaughan administered the oath of office and Chichura took his seat at the board table.
