A tractor-trailer driver cut his face and hurt his elbow after his truck overturned on Interstate 81 South near Lenox Twp. in Susquehanna County early Tuesday morning, spilling 42,000 pounds of cabbage and tomatoes.
The driver, Michael J. Clark, 54, of Byron, New York, is in fair condition at Geisinger Community Medical Center, hospital spokeswoman Westyn Hinchey said.
Clark lost control of his truck about 1:12 a.m. It struck the guardrail on the east shoulder and overturned onto its driver side, state police at Gibson said. The truck then slid and rested across both lanes of the interstate, spilling the produce on the road. Mr. Clark wore a seat belt, state police said.
State Department of Transportation crews cleaned the road, and officials detoured traffic. Both lanes were closed between Exit 211, Lenox, and Exit 206, Glenwood/Lenoxville, during the cleanup, PennDOT officials said. The road reopened shortly before 8:30 a.m.
Clark will be cited for speeding, state police said.
