The Susquehanna Sabers arrived in Montrose Friday night to face the Meteors for the second time this season.

Under the basket there was a first quarter battle between the big men with Montrose’s Jack Fruehan scoring six points, grabbing two rebounds, and blocking the shot attempts by the Sabers while Susquehanna’s Luke Falletta kept pace with seven points, two rebounds, and one steal.

Both players got some help from their teammates. Brendan Buck scored four points, and Troy Ely and Austin Smith each scored two for the Meteors. Tyler Williams scored four points for the Sabers. The quarter ended with the score Montrose 14, Susquehanna 11.

Things changed in the second quarter when the Meteors took control of the game. Fruehan added four more points to his total. Ely scored six more. Hunter Traver and Smith each added in eight.

Susquehanna was unable to add significant points to the scoreboard. Williams and Falletta were, again, the only Sabers to score in the quarter. They scored two and five points, respectively.

Montrose outscored Susquehanna 26 to 7 and at half time the Meteors were up 40 – 18.

The third quarter had more of the Sabers players taking and making scoring opportunities. Garrett Grausgruber and Brady Towner each made 3-pointers and Williams scored two points from the foul line. They were also able to play better defense and stop Montrose from running away with the quarter as they had in the previous eight minutes. They held the Meteors to 14 points. Mason Peck, Andrew Bickford, and Smith each scored two. Fruehan and Chris Guyette put up four points each to end the third quarter with a score of 54-26 in favor of the Meteors.

In the final quarter, Grausgruber and Williams each made a basket and a foul shot for the Sabers. Montrose baskets were score by Harley Mullins and Guyette. Peck score two foul shots and Mullins added one more when Susquehanna’s Kasey Burdick was charged with an intentional foul on a layup attempt by Mullins and received a technical with 50 seconds left in the game.

The final score of the game was Montrose 61, Susquehanna 32.

Fruehan was the high scorer for Montrose with 14 points followed by Smith with 12. The Susquehanna points leader was Falletta with 12 followed by Williams with 11.
