Montrose falls to Hornets

A pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns took No. 7 Honesdale to a 28-14 win over Montrose in Lackawanna Football Conference Division II game.

Montrose (0-5, 1-9) took the lead late in the second quarter when Jack Fruehan made a diving catch in the end zone on an 18-yard pass from Patrick Parks.

Parks hit Fruehan for the two-point conversion and the Meteors led, 8-0. The ensuing kickoff was squibbed and the Hornets took over at their 46. Honesdale’s Josh LoBasso hit Tyler Canfield for a 31-yard touchdown pass to cut the lead to 8-7 at halftime.

Honesdale took the lead on its first possession of the third quarter when LoBasso hit Julio Galarza for a 6-yard touchdown pass.

But Montrose answered on its next drive when Parks threw a pass into the end zone that was tipped before Austin Cook made the catch for the score. The extra point was blocked and the game was tied at 14.

The Hornets scored on a 4-yard run midway through the fourth quarter. Later in the quarter, Honesdale forced Montrose to punt and took over at its 47. Honesdale pulled away on a six-play drive and scored on a 4-yard run to give Honesdale a 28-14 lead.
