At North Pocono, Susquehanna’s Andrzej Tomczyk scored 20 points and knocked down a pair of free throws in the final seven seconds as the Sabers secured a spot in the District 2 Class A final.
“At this time of the year, if you are moving on, it doesn’t matter how you move on,” Susquehanna coach Lawrence Tompkins said.
Susquehanna could not shake MMI Prep, which took a 39-38 lead on an Alex Van Hoekelen layup with a minute to play.
Brandon Soden hit a shot and Tomczyk made his free throws to rally the Sabers back.
“Anything that Andrzej gets he deserves, he has really put the time in and worked hard to get to this point,” Tompkins said.
In the third quarter, Dan Biegert also gave his team a spark by picking up his defensive pressure and hitting for five points as the Sabers built a 34-25 advantage.
“Dan has been our best defender all year,” Tompkins said. “I think he did a nice job of sliding his feet defensively and he have us a lift.”
